In a major diplomatic victory, Ghana has been named the first beneficiary of France's newly introduced National Health Compact.
The announcement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron following the successful conclusion of the One Health Summit in Lyon, co-chaired by President John Dramani Mahama. The National Health Compact marks Ghana's formal entry into France's National Health Platform. This strategic partnership includes a significant grant package through Expertise France and the French Development Agency (AFD).
The funds are earmarked for laboratory expansion, surveillance systems, system resilience, and one health coordination.

President Macron lauded the 'Accra Reset' initiative of President Mahama, describing it as a global reference point, praising Mahama's "bold and visionary leadership," which he noted is already yielding transformative impacts across the African continent.
President Mahama, while in France, held meetings with Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate, and President Emmanuel Macron.
The Elysee Palace meeting touched on critical sectors, including Infrastructure (the Accra-Kumasi Expressway), agriculture (ensuring food security through year-round farming initiatives), technology (collaborative ventures in Artificial Intelligence and education), and security (combating terrorism and piracy in Ghana's territorial waters).
President Mahama expressed his gratitude to France and China for their pivotal roles in Ghana's successful debt restructuring.
"The economy has bounced back and is doing very well, with very positive indicators," he announced.
